Where the forecast comes from

What you receive by email

A link to your page, updated with every published run (twice a day): waves, wind, probabilities, astronomical tides and recent water temperature, subject to availability. No attachments.

Global model data

GO2BOARD retrieves forecasts produced by global models and organises the data into charts. You will receive forecasts from NOAA's GFS-Wave (American model) and ECMWF (European model).

Your selected map point is a reference

Data comes from the nearest available grid points, according to each source's grid and criteria. The point used may be away from your chosen beach; waves and wind may come from different points. Zooming in on the map does not increase forecast resolution.

No additional coastal simulation

GO2BOARD does not create a new model, refine the global grid or run a shallow-water model. It does not calculate wave transformation caused by the seabed, islands, bays or breaking waves. Wave height at the global grid point is not the height of breaking waves at the beach.

For areas covered by GUAECAST, use the coastal forecast

GUAECAST uses a shallow-water model on more detailed grids to represent wave transformation near the coast. In the Santos–Guarujá, São Sebastião and Ubatuba areas, we recommend these products for assessing local wave conditions.

Wave and wind forecasts for surfing, kitesurfing and windsurfing

Compare swell height, period and direction, wind speed and astronomical tides before travelling. GO2BOARD brings GFS-Wave and ECMWF global forecasts together in interactive charts for your chosen destination.

What is the difference between a forecast and climatology?

Use GO2BOARD to follow the next few days. To compare months and choose the best season for a surf, kitesurf or windsurf trip, explore the historical records on WHEN2BOARD. Along the coast covered by GUAECAST, also check its coastal wave forecasts.
